Introduction
The University of Reading’s relationship with NUIST (Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology) started in 2009 and led to the creation of a teaching partnership with the Department of Chemistry. This expanded into multiple course offerings and the establishment of the NUIST Reading Academy in 2015, a joint educational institute approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education. The Academy offers a range of undergraduate degrees in sciences and social sciences and gives students the opportunity to come to Reading for their final year. University of Reading curricula, materials, assessment and quality assurance procedures are followed at the Academy, helping to raise educational standards and enhance the quality of the degree programmes on offer.
From September 2018, the Academy was permitted to recruit up to 300 students annually across a portfolio of six subject areas. From September 2020, the academy partnership expands with the addition of two new programmes, bringing the total number of students annually to 380.

NUIST Reading Academy Success in the Chinese Ministry of Education Evaluation
The NUIST Reading Academy, a joint educational institute (JEI) between the University of Reading and NUIST, has successfully passed a Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) evaluation held in 2019. The Academy was rated highly by a panel of experts appointed by the MOE and was the only one among those evaluated in this round to be exempt from another MOE evaluation for 7 years.
